A celebration of writers, readers, and the ideas that bring them together, the AfterWords Literary Festival will take place October 3 through October 5 at various locations across Halifax. Tickets are now available, along with the full festival program.
In partnership with Word on the Street, AfterWords anchors the fall literary season, with a goal of providing thought-provoking, entertaining, diverse and accessible programming to audiences in Halifax over the three-day festival.
The festival is spearheaded by co-founders and executive directors Ryan Turner and Stephanie Domet, who are both writers and avid readers themselves.
“We wanted to create the kind of literary festival we have been longing to go to, a critical mass of writers and readers together over several days, talking about books and ideas, the kind of festival that makes you feel like the whole city is participating,” says Turner in a media release.
Offering a mix of readings, conversations, celebratory events, public workshops, and workshops geared to professional writers, AfterWords will feature writers and authors from Nova Scotia, across Canada, and around the world.
Confirmed writers for this year’s festival include: Caroline Adderson, Mona Awad, Doyali Islam, Cary Fagan, Elise Levine, with on-stage hosts, Sue Goyette, Alexander Macleod, and Stephanie Domet.
“October is such a golden time in this city,” adds Domet. “And with Word on the Street in mid-September, there was an opportunity to work together to create a kind of literary season in Halifax, and we’re excited to be part of that.”
