Sanctuary Concerts announces the release of Passages (SCCD 007), a new recording from Blackwood duo Peter-Anthony Togni (pipe organ) and Jeff Reilly (bass clarinet). The album will be released with guest cellist India Gailey at a live performance.
Peter-Anthony Togni (pipe organ), Jeff Reilly (bass clarinet), and India Gailey (cello) will perform at the launch. Cellist, composer, and improviser Gailey was named by CBC as “one of 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30” and has toured across the Western hemisphere as a classical and experimental music soloist and collaborator; she plays on two tracks of Passages.
Passages feature compositions by Togni and Reilly (Canadian Music Centre Associate composers), and the launch features a night of improvision and rich tapestries of original sounds (think Arvo Part meets Bram Stoker). Advance copies of the CD will be available at the concert, and it’s available now for pre-order at Bandcamp. The recording will be released on October 18th on all digital platforms.
Inspired by plainchant, improvisation, and holy minimalism, Blackwood’s lyrical approach to music straddles the boundary between jazz and classical. Over the past 25 years, the musically sympatico duo has released eight albums on labels like the ECM new series and Warner Classics and presented hundreds of concerts around the world. Along the way, they’ve garnered four JUNO nominations between them.
