For the first live in-person concert of its 33rd season, Cecilia Concerts welcomes the Dinuk Wijeratne Trio for two physically distanced performances in the Lilian Piercey Concert Hall within the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts.
Dinuk Wijeratne is one of Canada’s most established and performed Classical composers. The JUNO and ECMA-winning musician is also the recipient of the Masterworks Arts Prize and the SOCAN Jan Matejcek Award, among many others. His oeuvre encompasses much music that is piano-led and improvisation-based. It’s a vast body of multi-genre works that defy categorization and effortlessly span cultures and borders. As a pianist, Wijeratne leads his world-music trio for these performances in pieces seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary classical influences, world music, and jazz – music inspired by the poetry of Kahlil Gibran, the short stories of Italo Calvino, and by the question of what’ home’ means to us all. Wijeratne is joined by multi-percussionist Nick Halley and Tom Easley, one of Eastern Canada’s finest jazz bassists. Presented in partnership with Debut Atlantic.
The approximate concert length is one full hour, without an intermission. Please take note that this is a physically distanced concert and masks are required to be worn at all times. Seating is very limited.
(Saturday) 7:00 pm - 8:00 am
