Immerse yourself in a soothing and vibrant afternoon of sensory-friendly reggae and soul music featuring Juno-nominated singer Jah’Mila, joined by the warm, rhythmic talents of keyboardist Neshane Brown, saxophonist James Shaw, and pianist Jennifer King.
Originally from the sun-drenched shores of Kingston, Jamaica, and now a luminous force within Canada’s music scene, Jah’Mila brings her powerful, velvety voice and deep passion for Jamaican roots music to this dynamic program, blending it gently with jazzy and soulful hues. Experience the pulsing, earthy heartbeat of several of Jah’Mila’s original songs along with tributes to reggae legends with stirring renditions of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song,” Chronixx’s “Capture Land” and “Skanking Sweet,” and a moving interpretation of “Please Don’t Let Me Misunderstood,” featuring King’s sparkling, evocative piano. Prepare for an afternoon of flowing rhythm, soulful melody, and radiant inspiration that will linger like a warm breeze.
Co-presented with the Halifax Central Library as part of Cecilia Concerts’ Sensory-Accessible Concerts series, this concert features calming, sensory-friendly adaptations, including soft lighting, balanced sound, and a nurturing atmosphere, to create a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone.
