Cecilia Concert’s 2021/22 musician-in-residence, violinist Jonathan Crow, brings his New Orford String Quartet along with Prix Goyer-winning pianist Philip Chiu to K’jipuktuk/Halifax for an incredible in-person concert.
The program centers on Métis composer Ian Cusson’s stunning song cycle “Five Songs on Poems of Marilyn Dumont”, based on works by the Cree/Métis poet and educator, and features Kwagiulth and Stó꞉lō First Nations mezzo-soprano Marion Newman.
The piano quintet bookends this work with Edward Elgar’s Quintet in A minor for Piano and String Quartet, Op. 84, which was inspired by walks in the forest, and with Maurice Ravel’s lush and virtuosic String Quartet in F major.
