Twenty-two-year-old Chinese-Canadian pianist Tony Yike Yang has emerged as one of the foremost pianists of his generation.

A frequent prizewinner, Yang is the youngest-ever laureate of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, where he was acclaimed for his sophisticated mix of passion and technique. Cited as one of CBC Music’s 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, he was awarded the Jury Discretionary Award at the 15th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where he was also the youngest competitor. Yang has performed as a soloist and with orchestras around the world.

For this exclusive Halifax concert, the pianist performs Jean-Philippe Rameau’s splendid work from the French Baroque Gavotte et six doubles, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s much-admired Sonata in C major, K. 330, Fryderyk Chopin’s thrilling masterpiece Ballade in A-flat major, Op. 47, and Robert Schumann’s ode to masked revelers Carnaval, Op. 9. The approximate concert length is one full hour, without an intermission.
