The Young Company (YoCo) of Halifax Dance will return to the stage for its annual Spring Showcase on May 9 and 10, 2025, at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth, NS.
YoCo Artistic Director Kathleen Doherty says, ” This showcase delivers a wide range of work from some of the region’s finest professional choreographers. It has been amazing to watch the pieces come together over the season, and see the dancers bring such vibrancy and individuality to each process. This is going to be a fantastic sharing of dance, highlighting so many incredibly talented, and dedicated young dance artists.”
This is Doherty’s fourth season as Artistic Director, and her vision for the company includes expanding the community that YoCo serves. This season, YoCo is made up of 24 dancers between the ages of 13 and 18 from multiple dance schools throughout Nova Scotia. YoCo is a celebration of young artists, regardless of their dance school or training facility.
Young Company are pleased to welcome two guest performances to the show: TYDE of Halifax Dance (The Youth Dance Ensemble), and a group of Young Company Alumni. YoCo Alumni spanning from 1988-2022 have come together to remount a piece from 2020 by Gillian Seaward-Boone titled Echo Embodied. Having so many past, present and future generations of YoCo dancers in this season’s showcase is truly special.
This season’s Young Company dancers will perform 8 dance works, choreographed by local and national professional choreographers, including Isaac Abriel, Solène Bernier, Allie Conistis, Kathleen Doherty, Sara Harrigan, Emma Kerson, Stephanie Mitro, and Lydia Zimmer.
