This year’s Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day Festival runs August 2 through August 5. With some thirty events planned over the festival’s four days, it is all but impossible to take them all in. Here are five performance-based events we think you should check it out:
1. 10th Annual Natal Day Comedy Night (Aug 2)
Casino Nova Scotia hosts the tenth edition of the Natal Day Comedy Night featuring award-winning comedians Mark Forward and Cathy Jones. They will be joined on stage by fellow comedian Pete Johansson and host Travis Lindsay.
2. Natal Day Family Concert (Aug 3)
This free family concert at the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park features a DJ to get the party started, followed by 80’s cover band Maximum OverDrive and indie rock band, Hillsburn. Did we mention the day ends with fireworks in the Halifax harbour?
3. African Nova Scotia Music Association Concerts (Aug 4)
The African Nova Scotia Music Association presents not one, but two concerts at the Halifax South Commons. First up is an afternoon of Gospel music, followed by an early evening concert of urban music. The day will end with another fireworks show, this time in the Halifax Commons.
4. Caribbean Diaspora Multicultural Celebration (Aug 5)
The Jamaican Cultural Association of Nova Scotia celebrates 57 years of Jamaica’s independence with festivities all day long on the Halifax Common including cultural performances, folk singing, music, drumming, and more.
5. Sullivan’s Pond Natal Day Concert (Aug 5)
Over in Dartmouth, the Sullivan’s Pond Natal Day Concert features an afternoon of free live music presented by the Atlantic Federation of Musicians. And what Natal Day would be complete without yet another fireworks show, this time over Lake Banook in Dartmouth.
The 2019 Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Days takes place at various locations around the region from August 2-5. Visit natalday.org for the complete line-up.
