With just a week into Halifax’s summer its time to put away the sweaters, put on the sunscreen, and enjoy everything the season has to offer, including some great festivals.
Here are five we think are worth checking out:
1. Halifax Jazz Festival (Jul 9-14)
Celebrating its 33rd anniversary, the Halifax Jazz Festival is the oldest jazz festival and largest summer festival in Atlantic Canada. Award-winning artist, actor and activist, Common headlines this year’s festival with dozens of concerts scheduled on the waterfront and beyond over its six days. 2. Halifax Busker Festival (Jul 31-Aug 5)
Also celebrating its 33rd year, street performers take over Halifax’s waterfront for the annual Halifax Busker Festival. This curated festival will feature everything from pogo stick experts, to contortionists, to musicians, and more. More information at buskers.ca.
3. Halifax Urban Folk Fest (Aug 25-Sep 1)
The Halifax Urban Folk Festival (HUFF) returns for its tenth anniversary with headliners Matthew Sweet, Damhnait Doyle and the return of Alejandro Escovedo. Along with its series at The Carleton, this year the festival branches out into three local breweries in both Halifax & Dartmouth over its eight days. 4. Halifax Fringe Festival (Aug 29-Sep 8)
Musicals, and dramas, and comedies, oh my! This non-juried multi-disciplinary festival returns for its 29th year featuring over 55 productions where 100% of the box office revenues are returned to the artists. More information at halifaxfringe.ca.
