Tell us about Mind Games: Hypnosis, Hallucinations & Hi-jinx.
Mind Games: Hypnosis, Hallucinations & Hi-jinx blends comedy stage hypnosis with mentalism to create a unique adventure into the subconscious mind.
The show challenges peoples’ understanding of hypnosis. Random audience volunteers become the stars of the show when they explore the power of their imagination and subconscious mind. Hilarity ensues as hypnotized volunteers have their realities or personalities changed and are guided on entertaining journeys to imaginary environments. The show also explores the ‘super conscious mind’ in mind-bending experiments that evoke psychic connections and ESP.
In this interactive show, audience members also have the opportunity, if they chose, to experience the power of their own subconscious minds without being hypnotized or appearing on stage.
Describe your show in three words.
Funny. Fascinating. Bewildering.
Why should someone come see your show?
Audience members discover the hilarity and fascination of watching friends or family members — even random strangers — discover the power of their imagination through comical and fascinating routines. The show is as funny as it is bewildering and amazing.
Let’s face it: hypnosis is weird, even scary, to many people. Yet 99% of what people think they know about hypnosis, gleaned from TV and movies, is simply wrong. People who may be skeptical about hypnosis, leave convinced.
Because I use random volunteers from the audience, every show is different; the same routine will be different in each show. The show itself is like a ‘living and breathing’ entity that changes on its own because of its volunteer-driven nature. I never know who will be on stage with me, or what to expect from their imaginations. This requires a lot of spontaneity and improvisation.
What hypnotized volunteers produce from their wild imaginations is often far more twisted, funny or outrageous than what I would dream up — leaving both me and the audience amazed and laughing. It’s a wild, entertaining ride.
If your show was a superhero which superhero would it be, and why?
Dr Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme; it’s an evening surrounded in magical and mysterious forces.
If you could see only one show at the Halifax Fringe Festival this year, besides your own, what show would that be?
Keith Brown in the Art of Astonishment, because I like to spend time not thinking about ‘how it’s done’ but to simply enjoy a magical moment of wonder and mystery.
