#FringeDuJour: The Other Mozart

The forgotten story Mozart's sister

The Other Mozart

Tell us about The Other Mozart.

The Other Mozart is an award-winning play telling the true, forgotten story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus. A prodigy, keyboard virtuoso, and composer who performed throughout Europe with her brother to equal acclaim, her work, and her story faded away, lost to history due to the social pressure of the time for a woman.

Describe your show in three words.

Majestic. Heartbreaking. Funny.

Why should someone come to see your show?

Because you will discover the story of this talented woman with stories and quotes pulled directly from the Mozart family’s humorous and heartbreaking letters. You will be transported in a multi-sensual experience with the opulent beauty of the dress, Nannerl’s signature hairstyle, the sweet smell of perfume, and the clouds of dusting powder rising from the stage. You will join a world of outsized beauty and delight but also of overwhelming restrictions and prejudice.

If your show was a superhero which superhero would it be, and why?

Wonder Woman, because of her superhuman strength and her durability, like Nannerl as she outlived her family members, and of course because she is strong and beautiful.

If you could see only one show at the Halifax Fringe Festival this year, besides your own, what show would that be?

Only one? I think I would pick Lungs because the description makes me curious and they have good reviews.
