The 2020 TD Halifax Jazz Festival may still be a few months away, but organizers are busy putting together its line-up for the 34th edition set to take place at venues across the city July 7-12.
In a recent media release, Jazz Fest programmers announced Canadian singer-songwriter, Alessia Cara, as one of its headliners with a concert at the Waterfront TD Main Stage on July 9.
Continuing to make waves on the Canadian music scene, Cara is not only the host for this year’s Juno Awards, but the Grammy Award-winning Brampton native also leads the pack in nominations. Alongside nods for artist and songwriter of the year, Cara is also up for statues for her single Out Of Love from her nominated album The Pains of Growing, and the Juno Fan Choice Award.
Another 2020 Juno-nominee, the Montreal-based indie rock band Half Moon Run will also perform on the Waterfront stage. Known for their heavy use of percussion and group harmonies, their album A Blemish in the Great Light has been nominated in the adult alternative album of the year category. Joining Half Moon Run at the Waterfront stage on July 11 is Toronto-based, Saskatchewan-raised Andy Shauf.
As part of the festival’s returning series at St. Matthew’s United Church, Grammy Award-winning Larnell Lewis performs with his band on July 10. A Toronto native, Lewis has quickly established himself as one of the most diverse and in-demand drummers currently on the music scene. In addition to his long-standing work with the band Snarky Puppy, Lewis has led many highly successful groups of his own and toured the globe with some of the most well-known names in music.
