While tensions continue to rise between Canada and our neighbour to the south, Mayworks Kjipuktuk/Halifax is countering the rhetoric with a concert featuring East Coast hip hop artists from both sides of the 49th parallel.
New York hip hop artist Wiki and Brooklyn-based Lord Unknown will headline the May 2 concert. The concert will also feature up-and-coming Halifax artists Hatfield, Palestinian-Canadian BASYL, and established local artists DJ Uncle Fester and Tachichi to round out the opening set.
“While international trade wars are fueling sentiments of nationalistic pride, Mayworks is reminding us that the beef isn’t between artists or workers,” say organizers in a media release. “If anything, this is a time to emphasize cross-border solidarity and collaboration to counter the chauvinism and delusions of superiority that are leading the world into increasing conflicts.”
Wiki, Lord Unknown, DJ Uncle Fester, Tachichi, BASYL and Hatfield perform at The Marquee Ballroom on May 2, 2025. Visit mayworkskjipuktukhfx.ca for tickets and information.
