In a message to subscribers, the Halifax Jazz Fest has announced the first slate of artists for its 39th annual festival, which will take place July 15 to 20, 2025.
Multi-Grammy-nominated world music artist Femi Kuti & The Positive Force will open the festival on July 15 at the Light House Arts Centre. A Nigerian musician born in London and raised in Lagos, Kuti began his musical career playing in his father’s band before starting Positive Force in 1986. He has since received six Grammy nominations for the dozen albums he has released.
Also on the roster for next year’s festival are indie folk singer-songwriter Iron & Wine (aka Samuel Beam) on July 17 and American Indie rockers The Decemberists on July 18. Rounding out this first announcement is jazz saxophonist Christine Jensen Quartet, who will perform at The Carleton on July 17.
