Halifax Presents returned to The Carleton for the third edition of live online music series as we welcomed Chad McCoy on March 26.

The self-described “part-rocking simultaneous multi-instrumentalist” Chad McCoy plays “high energy and dynamic acoustic rock and roll, punk and soul.”

Having spent a good part of his twenties as a busker, Chad creates songs that celebrate self-reliance and discovery, stylized after the 90’s alternative music he grew up on. In true DIY fashion, he plays instruments that he has made and modified himself. And just wait until you see how he plays the Little Tykes toy piano he uses as part of his act.

Chad is currently organizing his Packin’ Light Tour, a pedal-powered trip through the Maritimes in support of his second E.P. Packin’ Light. The tour is currently scheduled to begin this summer but will be dependent on the state of the current health crisis.

“Travelling by bicycle and dragging a trailer full of musical instruments and camping gear over 1000km through three provinces, The Packin’ Light Tour is all about celebrating low tech and low carbon solutions, while keeping it high energy and upbeat,” he says.

In this latest in our Live at The Carleton series, Chad McCoy performs some of his original work, and we go behind the music to find out more.
