Eastern Front Theatre (EFT) is back on the road again this summer, inviting audiences along for the ride on the third edition of its annual field trip series.
Now in its third year, the popular series kicks off July 12, with additional excursions set for July 26 and August 9. Each trip offers a curated day-long adventure, complete with picturesque drives, stops at local markets and museums, picnic lunches, and a performance at a professional rural theatre.
According to EFT’s artistic director, Kat McCormack, these trips are becoming a summer tradition, attracting a diverse mix of people. “We see people on dates and anniversaries, families, solo travellers, theatre artists checking out their peers’ work — and a large quotient of older ladies who know exactly how to have a good time,” she says in a media release.
This season’s itinerary features three distinct journeys, including returns to familiar favourites Parrsboro and Ross Creek, plus a brand-new destination in Shelburne.
Participants can travel to Parrsboro to catch Chase the Ace, Mark Crawford’s one-man comedy at Ship’s Company Theatre, or to Ross Creek for The Haunting of Sleepy Hollow, a fireside production of the new musical adaptation of Washington Irving’s Headless Horseman tale, presented by Two Planks and a Passion Theatre.
New this year is a trip to Shelburne for Area 33, a play by Natalie Meisner staged at The Osprey Arts Centre. Adding to the intrigue, this outing includes a stop at the Shag Harbour UFO Museum, where travellers will hear firsthand from Laurie Wickens, one of the original witnesses to the 1967 Shag Harbour UFO Incident.
All tours depart from Alderney Landing in Dartmouth aboard a Coach Atlantic bus outfitted with WiFi, air conditioning, and an onboard restroom. Each outing accommodates up to 56 passengers. Visit easternfrontheatre.com for tickets and information.
