Summer theatre returns to Point Pleasant Park with Shakespeare by the Sea

Season highlights include a 20th anniversary revival of Robin Hood and an immersive walkabout staging of As You Like It.

Shakespeare by the Sea (SBTS) will once again bring Point Pleasant Park to life this summer with an ambitious 32nd season to run from July 5 through August 31, 2025.

“We can’t wait to welcome audiences back to the Park,” says artistic director Jesse MacLean. “This season is about celebrating who we are—playful, resilient, and full of heart.”

A highlight of the season is the 20th anniversary revival of Robin Hood: The Legendary Musical Comedy, a fast-paced and comedic musical adaptation of the English folklore about Robin and his merry band, who steal from the rich to give to the poor.

Complementing this production is an innovative presentation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It. In this “Walkabout Experience,” audiences will discover each scene as they move through the park alongside the actors. The production features an original score by Eliza Rhinelander performed live by Halifax musician Ian Sherwood.

In addition to its mainstage offerings, SBTS will present a one-night-only event, The Unrehearsed Romeo and Juliet, where anything might happen.

This summer also marks the continuation of SBTS’s ‘By the Sea’ series, spotlighting local artists and companies. Highlights include Sketch at the Park, a night of comedy under the stars; the return of the Halifax Fringe Festival; and the Halifax premiere of Zuppa Theatre’s Metu’na’q, a Mi’kmaw adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
