The Villains Theatre celebrates the spooky season with another Dan Bray mashup

Halifax playwright Dan Bray puts his quill and ink to paper once again for the spooky season with William Shakespeare's Playhouse of Horror, running from October 24-27 at the Park Place Theatre.

After tackling Shakespeare set to the music of Tears for Fears in 2022 and in the world of Zombies in 2019, Halifax playwright Dan Bray puts his quill and ink to paper once again as The Villains Theatre celebrates the spooky season with William Shakespeare’s Playhouse of Horror, featuring a mashup of Shakespeare plays and iconic horror movies.

There’s so much fun to be had in this 80-minute romp through five different horror-comedies, with emphasis on the comedy. – Colleen Arcturus MacIsaac.

The five short plays based on Shakespeare’s work in Bray’s signature style include Tempest, Monkeypaw Macbeth, Thirteenth Night, The Ingénue Slumber Party Haunting, and Tragedy.

“There’s so much fun to be had in this 80-minute romp through five different horror-comedies, with emphasis on the comedy,” says The Villains Theatre artistic producer Colleen Arcturus MacIsaac.

Not for the faint of heart, William Shakespeare’s Playhouse of Horror comes with what producers call a “playful R” rating with foul language, violence, and reference to sexual scenarios. A complete list of content warnings is available on The Villians Theatre website.

All tickets for William Shakespeare’s Playhouse of Horror are pay-what-you-can, keeping with The Villains Theatre’s accessibility goals.
