The Young Company of Halifax Dance (YOCO) returns to the stage in a spring showcase featuring 23 dancers between the ages of 13 and 18 from dance schools throughout Nova Scotia.

The showcase will feature Polysynapsis by Cory Bowles to mark Halifax Dance’s 50th anniversary. Bowles, best known for his work on Trailer Park Boys, created the work in 2003 for his Halifax-based contemporary dance company Verve Mwendo.
The performance also includes original works by local professional choreographers Isaac Abriel, Kathleen Doherty, Kate Holden, Olivia MacLean, Stephanie Mitro, Nicola Popp and Sarah Prosper.
As part of its mission to expand the community it serves, the showcase will also feature guest performances from Prince Edward Island’s Dance Virtuosa and Halifax Dance’s The Youth Dance Ensemble (TYDE).
“This showcase really delivers a wide range of work from some of the region’s finest professional choreographers,” says YOCO artistic director Kathleen Doherty. “It has been amazing to watch the pieces come together over the season and see the dancers bring such vibrancy and individuality to each process. This is going to be a fantastic night of dance, highlighting so many incredibly talented and dedicated young dance artists.”
Established in 1988, YOCO allows young artists to work with professional choreographers and teachers, complementing their technical training with performance experience.
