FIN Outdoor returns with The Summer of Sarah Polley

The FIN Atlantic International Film Festival returns with its summer movie series under the stars at the Halifax Public Gardens.

For over 20 years, the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival has delivered outdoor films during the summer in Halifax, projected on a larger-than-life inflatable screen under the open sky. And although the pandemic paused the summer tradition since 2019, the FIN Outdoor summer movie series returns this year with a celebration of the films of Canadian actor, director, filmmaker and activist Sarah Polley.

“We’re excited to once again screen films outdoors in the beautiful Halifax Public Gardens, and to relaunch our popular ‘Summer Of..’ theme,” says Martha Cooley, executive director of FIN. “We’ve been screening Sarah Polley’s work at the festival for years and with the recent publication of her book of personal essays, Run Towards the Danger, and the upcoming release of her first feature film in a decade, Women Talking, we couldn’t have picked a better year to celebrate Sarah Polley.”

FIN Outdoor will present a different movie each Friday in July, beginning with Polley’s 2003 film My Life Without Me on July 8. It will be followed by Away From Her on July 15, Take This Waltz on July 22 and Stories We Tell on July 29.

The free screenings will begin at dusk each night, with gates opening one hour before each screening. Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Concessions will be available on-site, and Feed Nova Scotia will be accepting monetary donations.
