Last seen on the Neptune Theatre stage as Captain Hook in its 2019 production of Peter Pan, actor and singer Kelly Holiff is trading in her iron hook for Adele’s songbook in Rumour Has It: The Songbook of Adele at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on May 20 and 21.
Adele’s music encourages you to go deep and be vulnerable. Reinterpreting those words to tell my own and new versions of those stories has been moving and awakening. – Kelly Holiff.
“We wanted to program a concert that would have mass appeal, and the music of Adele speaks to a wide range of audiences,” says Neptune’s artistic director Jeremy Webb. “Kelly was an obvious fit to interpret the rich, lyrical content and she has the flair to present it in a fresh and unique way.”
Bringing Sarah Richardson to arrange the music and bring together the backing vocalist and musicians, the award-winning musical director is proud of the diverse group of local musicians showcased in this concert alongside Holiff.
“Pulling together a group of powerhouse musicians who can rise to the challenge of performing Adele’s music and support the incomparable Kelly Holiff has been a joy,” says Richardson. “It’s been really wonderful exploring the new stories we’ve created. Each song has its own inspiration, breathing new life into familiar songs.
Thrilled to be back in Halifax, Holiff is excited to put this show in front of an audience.
“Adele’s music encourages you to go deep and be vulnerable. Reinterpreting those words to tell my own and new versions of those stories has been moving and awakening,” says Holiff. “Creating this show has been so fun. I love being able to dissect music and bring it back to life in new and different ways. I have an amazing team who are all extremely musically gifted. It’s been an honour to sing and create in a room, with such profound music.”
