Award-winning playwright and actor Raven Dauda brings her Dora Award-winning monodrama Addicted to Neptune Theatre’s Scotiabank Studio Stage.

Addicted follows Penelope Day, an alcoholic, who finds herself on the brink of despair. She finds herself at Saving Grace, an unconventional rehabilitation center and its motley crew of residents. As Penelope confronts her inner demons, she unearths the harrowing truths of her family’s troubled history, prompting her to confront her reality and question her chances of survival.

Addicted is based on Dauda’s own experience with alcoholism. Through the portrayal of ten distinct characters, all portrayed by Dauda, she delves into various forms of addiction, shedding light on an often taboo subject through mime, physical comedy, puppetry, and the incorporation of Shamanic theatre and storytelling.

“There is a magic about the show that is infectious and uplifting. The story is filled with so much light, joy, humour and hope,” says Dauda in a media release. “After every performance, audiences always tell me how amazing it is to see me transform between the characters.”

Addicted plays Neptune Theatre’s Scotiabank Studio Stage (1589 Argyle St, Halifax) from March 12 to 24. For tickets and information, visit neptunetheatre.com.
