Jackson Fairfax-Perry named 2b theatre company’s emerging artist-in-residence

Over the next two years, Fairfax-Perry will contribute and collaborate on 2 b-related projects and develop his own original work with guidance and support from 2b leadership.

In a media release, Halifax’s 2b theatre company has announced Jackson Fairfax-Perry as its 2023-24 RBC emerging artist-in-residence.

Over the next two years, Fairfax-Perry will contribute and collaborate on 2 b-related projects and develop original work with guidance and support from the company’s leadership.

“2b is filled with kind-hearted and generous artists who are dedicated to artistic exploration and who have a talent for bringing the best out of the artists they work with,” says Fairfax-Perry. “They’ve supported my work in theatre since day one, and I look forward to continuing this relationship and to seeing what we cook up next.”

A multifaceted musician, composer, and producer, Fairfax-Perry has performed widely in Canada and abroad as a member of the indie pop group Hillsburn and with artists such as David Myles, Aquakultre, Ben Caplan, and Jerry Granelli, among others.

Fairfax-Perry’s recent work in theatre as a sound designer includes Adventures by Keep Good Theatre Company and Fat Juliet by Eastern Front Theatre, a production for which he won a Robert Merritt Award.

“Jackson is a unique talent and generous collaborator. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to 2b,” says artistic director Christian Barry. “As a seasoned musician, Jackson brings his versatile skillset as a composer, designer, and performer to his design work. That, combined with his humble, articulate, and hard-working approach to collaboration, makes him an ideal team member. He is a brilliant emerging voice in the Halifax performance community.”

“I’ve had the privilege to work with Jackson a few times now and have always been impressed with his artistry and his ability to think outside of the box when constructing a soundscape or piece of music,” adds associate artistic director Jacob Sampson. “I admire his impeccable work ethic and am grateful for his generosity of spirit and kindness in a room. I am so excited for the opportunity to work closely with Jackson.”
